ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF women's basketball forward Kayli Keough and former rower Chelsey Lauzon were awarded the prestigious honor of Order of Pegasus this week.

The Order of Pegasus recognizes exemplary performance by UCF undergraduate students in the areas of academic achievement, outstanding university involvement, leadership, and community service. It is the most prestigious and significant student award that can be attained at the university.

The duo is part of a 19-member class that will be recognized in an awards ceremony in April.

"All of us here are extremely proud of the amazing accomplishments of both Chelsey and Kayli," said Kimya Massey, associate athletics director of academic services.  "They are incredible student-athletes, who have excelled academically, athletically and most importantly, in their endeavors with society. They demonstrate maturity and integrity beyond their years and have set a great example for all students in the UCF community.  We are very excited for them to receive this great honor and look forward to all of their future successes."

Keough, who transferred to UCF from Florida State in 2010, is in the middle of her final season with the Knights. She has already earned her bachelor's degree in sociology in May and is currently pursuing another bachelor's degree with the intention of attending law school following graduation. She was named to the 2012 Conference USA Women's Basketball All-Academic team.

"I'm so excited for Kayli to receive this honor," said Sarah Hill, assistant director of academic services for student-athletes. "To be inducted into the Order of Pegasus is such a great accomplishment. She is an amazing person, student and athlete. She has a great all-around character and works hard at everything she does. I'm so proud of her."

Chelsey Lauzon

Lauzon is a former C-USA Rowing Scholar Athlete of the Year, a three-time Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association all-region honoree and a two-time all-conference and all-academic team selection. She is also dedicated to work in the community, specifically Camp Blodgett in her home state of Michigan. She has been affiliated with the week-long camp, which serves low-income families, at Lake Michigan for 14 years, both as a camper and a volunteer.

"Chelsey Lauzon was a very dedicated student-athlete while at UCF.  She worked hard to maintain an excellent GPA and balance her academics with her athletic career," said Margaret Dann, coordinator of academic advising services. "She was a leader both in the classroom and on the water.  She will make an excellent teacher and we look forward to learning of her future successes in life."
