ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) – UCF Assistant Vice President for Athletics Development Jeff Ulmer has announced the hiring of Gregory Gilbert as Associate Director of Athletics Development for the Golden Knights Club.

Since 1995, Gilbert has worked in marketing, business development and consulting roles with organizations such as Compass Bank, GE Healthcare, AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals and Medtronic Spine. Gilbert is also an executive board member for Mind Set Migration and is the creator and program director of RE-IGNITE Mental Sports Performance.

Prior to beginning his career in business, Gilbert was a member of the Los Angeles Raiders in 1990 and 1991. He also played in the World League of American Football in 1992 and 1993. Gilbert was selected in the fifth round of the 1989 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears, after an outstanding collegiate career at Alabama.

“We are fortunate to have Greg on our development team,” Ulmer said. “He brings with him a solid background and demonstrated success in public finance, pharmaceuticals and health care sales. He was a standout student-athlete at the University of Alabama, followed by three years of professional football. His experiences from the perspective of a student-athlete, combined with his successful business background made him a very attractive candidate for the position.”

Gilbert said he is looking forward to his new position at UCF.

“The opportunity to play a role in the future of this great university is a dream come true,” Gilbert said. “The years I have spent in other industries, dedicated to the understanding of business development and leadership concepts, combined with my passion for athletics are a unique set of skills that I believe will enhance my chances for success. There is a great environment at UCF and I’m very eager to get started.”

In his position at UCF, Gilbert will be responsible for securing major gifts for athletics facilities, endowments and program support. He began his duties at UCF on November 26.

Gilbert’s wife, Caryl Smith Gilbert, is the head coach of the UCF women’s track and field/cross country program. Their family includes sons Alex, Spencer and Osiris.
