Overall department average improves for eighth consecutive year

Kimya Massey currently serves as UCF's Senior Associate AD for Academic Services and Director of Academic Services for Student-Athletes (ASSA). He has been at UCF since August 2011. 

In addition to his oversight of UCF Athletics' academic services, he is also the sport supervisor for men's soccer and softball for the Knights. During Massey's tenure, the Knights have set school records for Academic Progress Rate and Graduation Success Rate. He has overseen academics for an athletic department that has averaged a 3.0 grade-point average for 15 consecutive semesters.

Prior to his appointment at UCF, Massey was at the University of Memphis. Massey joined the staff at the University of Memphis in May of 2009 to serve as the Assistant Director in the Center for Athletic Academic Services. His responsibilities included working with all aspects of academic compliance, NCAA Eligibility Center, liaison to University of Memphis admissions, counselor for Men's Soccer and teaching a section of ACAD 1100 (Intro to the University).

Massey played an instrumental role in helping Memphis achieve their first ever 3.0 department GPA and setting a school record in the fall of 2010 for the most student-athletes ever over a 3.0 semester GPA. In addition helped lead Memphis student-athletes to win six Conference USA Institutional Sport Academic Awards during the 2010-11 academic year.

Prior to arriving at Memphis, Massey served three years as the Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Services at Indiana University. He oversaw the academic advising staff for all sports outside of football and was the primary advisor for Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball and Baseball

Previous to Indiana, Massey worked at Michigan State University where he worked with Football, Women's Basketball and a variety of other sports during his four years at the institution. He also served as Assistant Life Skills Director and oversaw the Learning Enhancement and Academic Programs (LEAP).

Massey is active in the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics (N4A), presenting multiple times at national conventions and serving in a variety of leadership roles. He was the Region III Director from 2006-2008, served on the Legislative Committee, Membership Committee and is the current chair of the Strategic Planning Committee. He has also been active with the NCAA, serving as a member of the Men's Basketball Academic Enhancement Task Force and currently serving on the NCAA's core course subcommittee for Initial Eligibility.

Kimya is originally from Van Nuys, California and grew up on the west coast before moving to Michigan prior to high school. He earned his Bachelors of Arts in Anthropology and Sociology in 2000 from Michigan State and a Masters in Kinesiology with an emphasis on Sports Administration in 2004, also from Michigan State.

In his spare time, he enjoys running, basketball, tennis, golf and cooking. He enjoys spending time with his wife and resides in Orlando with their two dogs, Rookie and Nala.
