O'Brien was named a Kodak and Football News First Team All-American in 1987 ... earned Associated Press All-America Second Team honors as well in 1987 ... registered the second-most points in a game at UCF with 16 against Northwest Missouri State in 1987 ... also holds the fourth (15) and sixth (14) most points kicking in a game in school history ... collected the third-most points kicking in a single-season with 87 in 1987 ... his 87 points in 1987 were a school record at the time and helped lead the Knights to the second round of the Division II playoffs and a then school-record nine wins ... stands third on the UCF scoring charts for kickers with 262 points ... connected on a school-best nine extra points against Samford in 1986 ... also had eight extra points against Grand Valley State in 1987 ... ranks first on the UCF career charts with 50 made field goals and 77 field goals attempted ... his .649 field goal percentage is the fifth-highest in school history ... connected on a 55-yard field goal with three second remaining to give the Knights their first victory over area-rival Bethune-Cookman, 39-37, in a 1987 contest ... the 55-yarder, which caromed off the left upright, still stands as the longest in school history ... one of only two Knights in school history to connect on a trio of 50-yard field goals in their career ... his 112 extra points and 94.9 percentage rate on extra points are the third best marks in school history ... twice led the team in scoring in 1986 (80 points) and 1987 (87 points) ... was named the team's Special Teams Player of the Year in 1986 when he connected on 16-of-21 field goals and 32-of-35 extra points ... in 2004, earned an honorable mention spot on the Orlando Sentinel's Silver Anniversary UCF Football Team ... prepped under Mike Uspensky at Hialeah Miami Lakes ... was a five-sport athlete at Hialeah Miami Lakes, earning letters in football, bowling, track and field, soccer and golf ... named All-City in football, bowling, soccer and golf and was named the school's Athlete of the Year as junior and senior.
