LAKE BUENA VISTA, Florida (UCFAthletics.com) – The chance for seven-straight top-three national finishes for the UCF cheerleading team was strengthened Saturday as the squad advanced to the finals of the College Cheerleading National Championships held at Disney’s Wide World of Sports.
In front of a packed crowd inside the HP Field House, the cheer team went on stage just after 8:10 p.m. as the second-to-last team to compete in the Division IA semi-finals. The squad brought the raucous group of fans to its feet at the completion of its routine.
After all 17 team performed, the Knights found themselves in second place behind Kentucky while Alabama, Memphis and Ohio State rounded out the top five.
The Knights, who have won national championships in 2003 and 2007, will take to the floor Sunday at 6:10 p.m. as the third team to perform after Memphis and Ohio State. Each team will have a clean slate as Saturday's rankings do not carry over.
Prior to Saturday’s semi-final round, UCF already received a perfect score of 15 on their Crowd Highlight Video, which shows the team’s outreach in the Central Florida community as well as leading crowds at UCF athletic events. The score accounts for 15 percent of the team’s total in tomorrow’s final.
