ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - At the conclusion of a two-day clinic held on the UCF campus this past weekend, 18 young women including 10 new team members have accepted offers to represent the Black & Gold as members of the 2014-2015 KnightMoves dance team.
After a quick clinic on Friday, the prospects went straight into a two-day tryout evaluation on Saturday and Sunday. Prospects came from as far away as Illinois and Pennsylvania with each hoping to impress the coaching staff and earn a position on next year's team.
"What an incredible turnout this past weekend," said dance coach Brook Rieger at the conclusion to the final day. "I can't wait to get started with plans for the upcoming football and basketball seasons."
Next up for the spirit team (Cheerleading, Knightro and KnightMoves Dance) will be auditions for Team Knightro set for April 11th and 12th in conjunction with the spring football game. Cheerleading tryouts will be held during the weekend of May 2-4.
"This has been an extremely busy spring for our team," said Linda Gooch, head coach for the UCF spirit program. "There is no question that the success our football team enjoyed this year has heightened interest in our spirit program. In addition to dozens of appearance requests, we have had inquiries from all over the U.S. about tryouts for our dance and mascot program. "
The final piece of spring recruiting for the spirit team will be tryouts for UCF's nationally recognized cheerleading program. UCF's cheerleaders, who finished runner up to the University of Kentucky at this year's national championships, will be looking for a great turnout of talent again this year.
