TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (UCFKnights.com) - UCF cross country completed its season on Friday with a 19th place finish at the NCAA South Region Championships. Sophomore Anne-Marie Blaney paced the Knights with her time of 20:32.94 to record a program-best 11th place finish.
Blaney, a five-time American Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week selection, wrapped up her sophomore campaign with three top finishes in the Knights’ five regular-season meets and posted a school-record, first-place performance at the league championship.
“All the girls ran well,” assistant coach Johnny Gray said of the team’s performance. “Amelia (Williams) was sick, and still gave it her all. Erica (Winston) stepped up. Everybody did well. It was a tough course, very hilly. Heather (Classe) recorded a personal record and nobody quit. It’s a huge improvement from finishing 22nd last season. We’re getting better, but we still have a ways to go.”
Sophomore Heather Classe posted a personal best time of 21:22.85 before senior Erica Winston crossed the finish line with her time of 22:53.25.
Junior Amelia Williams recorded a time of 23:16.66 followed by sophomores Alyssa Hamel, who posted a personal best of 23:44.0, and Jocelin Adona, who finished with a time of 23:54.60.
Florida State, Vanderbilt and Alabama claimed the top three finishes, respectively, in the 27-team event.
