ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Fresh off its fifth conference championship in the last three years, the UCF track and field team continues to rank in the top 10 of the national standings, this week rising to No. 9 in the USTFCCCA poll.
UCF is the only Conference USA team present in the rankings and is the best rated program in the state of Florida. LSU reigns as No. 1 and is followed by reigning national champion Oregon, Kansas, Arkansas and Clemson in the top five.
The Knights bumped up one spot from last week's rankings. Couple with the outdoor season, UCF has not fallen out of the top 25 dating to April 26, 2011.
The cross country team also received good news this week, earning recognition as a USTFCCCA All-Academic team with a grade-point average of 3.138. To qualify, a team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have started at least five runners at their respective NCAA Regional Championship.
A total of 200 institutions representing 30 conferences compose the group. Among conferences, UCF's future conference affiliate, the BIG EAST, had the most squads make the list with 12. The Big Ten and C-USA followed with 11.
The long jumping corps will represent UCF at the Last Chance Meet at Virginia Tech this Saturday as the Knights hope to add a few more athletes to its NCAA Indoor Championships travel party.
