ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - UCF sophomore Anne-Marie Blaney added to her collection of American Athletic Conference awards Tuesday. The Ocala, Fla., native was named the league's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the third time in a row.
She is the only American runner, male or female, to earn multiple weekly honors.
Blaney won the FL Runners Invitational for the second-consecutive year and upped the ante by setting the collegiate meet record with a time of 17:24.90. Blaney already holds the school record, but her time Friday ranks second among UCF's all-time performances.
She finished 28 seconds ahead of the race's runner-up and was one of four top-10 finishers for the Knights to help defend the team's overall first-place finish from a year ago.
In all three of her races this season, Blaney has failed to finish out of the field's top three. She earned UCF's first conference athlete of the week distinction since 2006 on Sept. 10 after her dominant win at the USF Invitational. She was then recognized on Sept. 17 for her successful run at the Mountain Dew Invitational in Gainesville.
The league did not award an athlete of the week honor Sept. 23 due to limited competition.
The Knights run next Oct. 12 at the Disney Classic in Lake Buena Vista at 8:30 a.m.
