IRVING, Texas. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF freshman Miles Harris (Newberry, Fla./Oak Hill HS) was named Conference USA Male Cross Country Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Despite the windy conditions and a downpour at mile three of 8K race, Harris placed 18th at the field of 74 athletes at FLRunners.com Invitational on Oct. 5. The lone male entry for the Knights, he finished with a time of 28:01.77.
"This is a great accomplishment for Miles," said UCF head coach Caryl Smith Gilbert. "It is always great to see an athlete overcome difficult circumstances like inclement weather. I am looking forward to seeing Miles and the rest of the UCF team compete at Stetson this weekend and at the C-USA Championships at the end of the month."
The Knights return to action at the Stetson Invitational in DeLand, Fla. on Friday, Oct. 12. The women's race begins at 4:30 p.m. followed by the men at 5:10 p.m.
