ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - UCF sophomore Anne-Marie Blaney will set foot on her home course this week as the reigning American Athletic Conference Cross Country Athlete of the Week.
Blaney added to her collection of weekly awards Tuesday, clinching her fourth such award out of the possible six given this season. She is the only American runner, male or female, to earn multiple weekly honors.
At the 18th annual Disney Cross Country Classic over the weekend, Blaney finished second overall in a field of 200 with her time of 17:33.12, leading the Knights to a third-place team finish out of 24 teams. She outran opponents from eight other Division I teams, including Florida and Miami.
In all four of her races this season, Blaney has failed to finish out of the field's top three. She earned UCF's first conference athlete of the week distinction since 2006 on Sept. 10 after her dominant win at the USF Invitational. She was then recognized on Sept. 17 for her successful run at the Mountain Dew Invitational in Gainesville before picking up another nod Oct. 1 for her collegiate-course-record-breaking run at the FL Runners Invitational.
The Knights will have its final test of the regular season on campus when they host the UCF Cross Country Invitational on Friday. The women's 6K begins at 5 p.m. and the men's 8K begins at 5:45 p.m.
