ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – After a thrilling battle the previous evening, No. 2 Florida State was too much for the UCF baseball team on Wednesday afternoon at the baseball complex. The Seminoles topped the Knights, 18-1, in front of another packed stadium with 3,105 fans in attendance.

A total of 7,058 spectators checked out the midweek action, shattering the previous series record of 6,601 set in a three-game series against No. 4 Rice in 2012.

Redshirt sophomore Ryan Meyer made his UCF debut in relief after missing his two full seasons due to injury. The Oviedo native tossed three innings and recorded his first-career strikeout in his first collegiate action. Junior LHP Danny Davis also made his first-career UCF appearance and allowed just one hit to go along with a strikeout in one inning of work.

Redshirt freshman Jarrod Petree continued to be solid out of the pen as he spun 1.1 scoreless innings. The Apopka native has not allowed a run in his last four appearances and has lowered his season ERA to 3.68 over that stretch.

Junior Tommy Williams provided all of the Knights’ offense with a solo home run in the fourth. It was the team-leading fourth long ball of the season for Williams, who finished his day at the plate a perfect 2-for-2 with a walk.

Making his first-career start in left field in his 110th game as a Knight, junior James Vasquez was able to extend his hitting streak to eight games with a single. Vasquez is now hitting .344 and leads the Knights with 22 hits.

Sophomore Tyler Martin (0-1) made his first start of the season and was tagged with the loss after giving up a run in two innings. It was just the first run allowed in 8.2 innings pitched by the Jacksonville native this season.

The Black and Gold returns to action this weekend against Central Connecticut State in its final nonconference series before American Athletic Conference play begins. UCF will send LHP Eric Skoglund to the mound on Friday night with first pitch slated for 6:30 p.m.
