ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - With the 2014 season just around the corner, the UCF baseball team will field a 2014 squad that features 24 newcomers. UCFKnights.com will introduce you to each fresh face with a Q and A session as part of the "Know Your Knights" series.
Freshman catcher Hayden Platt joins the Knights after being named to the All-Area and All-Conference teams all four years at Naples High School. Platt also finished his high school career with 87 RBI and a lifetime .389 batting average.
Question 1: Why did you choose to play for the Knights?
HP: When I took my visit I just loved the school, loved the coaches and the atmosphere.
Question 2: What's been the biggest adjustment you've had to make to the college game so far?
HP: Mainly the mental preparation, the mental side that has to go into it.
Question 3: Who’s your favorite MLB player and team, and why?
HP: Favorite major league player would be Yadi Molina. He's probably the best catcher in the game, a good idol as a fellow catcher. Major league team – don’t really have one but if I had to narrow it down I would say the Yankees.
Question 4: What's your favorite thing to do when you're not on the field?
HP: I like to hang out with friends, chill out, play video games, relax.
Question 5: What is your favorite restaurant in Orlando?
HP: Definitely Jimmy Hula's
Question 6: What's your favorite TV show?
HP: It used to be Breaking Bad. But right now, I don’t really watch TV that much. Nothing has really caught my eye since Breaking Bad.
Question 7: What will your walkup song be?
HP: “They Don’t Know” by Gyft.
Question 8: What country would you most like to visit?
HP: I’ve been to a lot of places in Europe but I would have to say I want to visit Italy. (You’ve never visited Italy?) I've been to a lot of places in Europe except for Italy
Question 9: What parts of your game are you trying to improve?
HP: My mental game and getting used to all the signs and everything you gotta learn so you can just let it rip when the time comes
Question 10: What's your favorite thing about Orlando?
HP: Well I came from Naples and it wasn’t that big of a town. So Orlando, a big city, I’m starting to enjoy it. I like it. I like the atmosphere here and that’s my favorite part about Orlando.
Question 11: What's one thing your teammates would be surprised to know about you?
HP: I love music. (In what way? You like to play music? Like to listen?) I just like music to relax. (Do you like to play an instrument?) No, I wish I had a musical talent but I don’t.
Question 12: Who is the guy in the clubhouse that keeps it most upbeat?
HP: We have a ton of them but I would have to say Joe Marotta. (You’re the first person to not say Tyler Martin.) I have to throw Tyler in there too. Those two, for sure. They definitely keep it loose in there.
Question 13: Nickname of your first little league team?
Question 14: What non-athlete would you want to meet most and why?
HP: Kevin Hart. He’s a funny dude. Me and him would definitely go back and forth. I think we could hold a conversation
Question 15: If you could have one superpower, which would you choose?
HP: Probably to fly. Go take a cruise and fly around.
Question 16: At which store would you like to max out a credit card?
HP: A Nike outlet
Question 17: What's the farthest you've been from home?
HP: Well I’ve been to France which is pretty far. (Have you been to Asia?) No I have not been that far.
Question 18: If you were selecting movies for a bus trip, what would you pick first?
HP: Probably Step Brothers. That’s a funny movie. Superbad was one of my favorites and then Catch Me If you Can. That’s one of my favorites.
Question 19: Most played song on your iPod?
HP: Lately Ive been in a Lynard Skynard mood. Probably “Freebird” would be my first song.
Question 20: Dream date?
HP: I know my girlfriend would probably want me to say her but I’d probably have to go with Kate Upton.
