ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - With the 2014 season just around the corner, the UCF baseball team will field a 2014 squad that features 24 newcomers. UCFKnights.com will introduce you to each fresh face with a Q and A session as part of the "Know Your Knights" series.

Junior outfielder Derrick Salberg joins the Knights after a stellar career at Lower Columbia College where he earned first team west division honors and a spot on the All-NWAACC Second Team while earning a gold glove for his strong play in the outfield.

Question 1: Why did you choose to play for the Knights?

DS: It's a good tradition here at UCF. There's a lot of sunshine and I'm from Washington. There's not a lot there so that helps.

Question 2: What's been the biggest adjustment you've had to make to the college game so far?

DS: The amount of time that we put in here. We're up here early and we leave late. (Dealing with school too?) Yeah, on top of that you have school work and everything else.

Question 3: Who's your favorite MLB player and team, and why?

DS: Ken Griffey Junior. (What about current?) Probably Jacoby Ellsbury since he's from the northwest and we have the kind of the same game (Your favorite team the Mariners?) Of course, yeah.

Question 4: What's your favorite thing to do when you're not on the field?

DS: Definitely relax, lay on the couch and watch TV with my roommates. (Who are your roommates?) I live with Mitchell Tripp and Tanner Olson, the two other Washington guys.

Question 5: What is your favorite restaurant in Orlando?

DS: Definitely Huey Magoos.

Question 6: What's your favorite TV show?

DS: The Office.

Question 7: What will your walkup song be?

DS: "Stay Fly" by Three 6 Mafia.

Question 8: What country would you most like to visit?

DS:  Probably England. I have a cousin that lives in London because he's in the Air Force.

Question 9: What parts of your game are you trying to improve?

DS: My bunting. The coaches are harping on me all the time to use my speed.

Question 10: What's your favorite thing about Orlando?

DS: Pretty much the weather, how could you not love it?

Question 11: What's one thing your teammates would be surprised to know about you?

DS: All my teammates know but the fans wouldn't know is that I don't have my driver's license. (How many times have you driven in your life?) I've some driven before. I just don't feel like going to get it. I'm not nervous about the test or anything.

Question 12: Who is the guy in the clubhouse that keeps it most upbeat?

DS: Tyler Martin for sure. He's a funny guy.

Question 13: Nickname of your first little league team?

DS: Champs. We were sponsored by Champs Sports.

Question 14: What non-athlete would you want to meet most and why?

DS: Kevin Hart. (That's a popular answer. You think you could go back and forth with Kevin Hart?) Yeah I can. I just saw his latest movie and it was hilarious.

Question 15: If you could have one superpower, which would you choose?

DS: Be able to fly.

Question 16: At which store would you like to max out a credit card?

DS: Probably Foot Locker. Get some new shoes and shorts. I'm a shoe guy.

Question 17: What's the farthest you've been from home?

DS: Here. It's basically a diagonal line across the country.

Question 18: If you were selecting movies for a bus trip, what would you pick?

DS: "Sandlot," and then an inspiration movie so something like "Glory Road" or "Remember the Titans". Gotta do funny ones too so something like "Stepbrothers" or "Hangover."

Question 19: Most played song on your iPod?

DS: Probably "Wrecking ball." By Miley. (Really?) Yeah.

Question 20: Dream date?

DS: Jennifer Lawrence (Would you want her to wear the Hunger Games outfit?) Well hopefully her hair would be longer but yeah...
