ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The atmosphere is set to get turned up a notch this week at the UCF baseball complex when the Knights take on No. 2 Florida State at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and 4 p.m. Wednesday. The Seminoles are the highest-ranked program to visit Orlando since No. 1 Rice came to town back in 2006.
UCF-FSU Game Notes
With just 500 tickets remaining for game one, seating is expected to be limited. Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance through UCFKnights.com, or by calling 407-UCF-1000. The last time the two teams met in Orlando a total 5,851 packed the park, shattering the UCF series attendance record.
Both contests can be heard live on AM 740 The Game with Scott Adams on the call. Live video will also be provided via UCF All-Access. Pregame starts 15 minutes prior to first pitch of each contest.
Setting the Stage
This series marks the fourth-straight year the two squads have met during the regular season. Prior to the 2011 series in Tallahassee, the two schools had not met during the regular season since March 10, 1993. The eight meetings between 1997 and 2004 all occurred in NCAA Regionals played in Tallahassee. Two years ago in Orlando, the Knights (7-9) dropped a pair of one-run contests during the midweek while taking one from the Seminoles (12-2) on the road in 2011.
On the mound for UCF on Tuesday will be junior righty Tanner Olson. The Ferndale, Wash., native will be making his second-career start after he allowed just two hits and no earned runs in 4.2 strong innings against Michigan last Wednesday. On the season, Olson is 1-1 with 3.18 ERA in four appearances. He will be opposed by senior RHP Peter Miller. Miller, a 16th-round pick in the 2013 MLB Draft by the LA Dodgers, is 1-0 with a 7.71 ERA in two starts this season.
Wednesday's starters for both squads are still to be determined.
The Knights are led offensively by junior first baseman James Vasquez. The Palm City native is hitting .333 with a home run and 12 runs batted in. Vasquez is currently riding a six-game hitting streak and has increased his average 55 points during that stretch. He is joined by fellow junior JoMarcos Woods who also has a seven-game run at the plate of his own. Woods has rebounded from a slow start and now has five hits in his last three games.
