Baseball Stumbles at No. 24 Miami
It was another tough night for the UCF baseball team as it fell to No. 24 Miami, 5-0, at Alex Rodriguez Park on Wednesday. The Knights (7-6), who were looking for their third win in their last four road games against Miami, fell victim to a Hurricanes (12-2) pitching staff that limited the bats to just five hits.
ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - Looking for its second win of the season over a nationally ranked opponent, the UCF baseball team hits the road for the first time in two weeks on Tuesday in Coral Gables when it battles No. 25 Miami at 6 p.m. from Mark Light Field at Alex Rodriguez Park.
UCF-Miami Game Notes
Tuesday night's in-state showdown can be heard on the airwaves in Central Florida on AM 740 The Game. Marc Daniels will be on the call with pregame beginning at 5:45 p.m.
The Hurricanes come into the contest with an 11-9 record after dropping two-of-three at Georgia Tech last weekend. Miami won the lone matchup, 5-0, against UCF in 2013.
On the mound for the Knights (9-12) will be junior RHP Tanner Olson (1-1, 4.30 ERA). The Ferndale, Wash., native will make his third-consecutive midweek start and sixth appearance overall. He will be opposed by freshman LHP Danny Garcia who has yet to record a decision in five appearances.
In the series victory last weekend over Central Connecticut, junior Tommy Williams was named to The American honor roll after hitting .368 (7-for-19) during the week with six runs scored, five walks, three doubles, two home runs and five RBIs. It was the third time a Knight has been named to the weekly honor roll as Williams (Feb. 17) and Derrick Salberg (Feb. 24) were also recognized for strong efforts earlier this year.
