Baseball Falls 6-1 to Memphis in Game One of C-USA Championship
The No. 5 UCF baseball team was unsuccessful in game one of the Conference USA Championship, falling to No. 4 Memphis, 6-1, Wednesday afternoon at Reckling Park.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF baseball team wraps up a stretch of seven out of eight road games this weekend when it plays a three-game set at Memphis for the first time as a member of the American Athletic Conference.

The Knights (20-14, 8-1 The American) currently sit on top of the league standings with the Tigers (18-16, 3-6) checking in eighth place.

All three games can be heard live on UCF's All-Access subscription service. Pregame starts at 15 minutes prior to each contest.

This weekend is a matchup of two teams trending in opposite directions. The Black and Gold have come on strong of late, winning 13 of their past 16 games. The Tigers will try and stem a recent slide, with eight losses in their past ten games after getting off to a hot start to the season.

UCF will send Eric Skoglund (5-0, 1.83 ERA) to the mound on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. for his ninth start of the year. The Sarasota native earned The American Pitcher of the Week award after he outdueled USF ace Jimmy Herget last Friday night in a 2-0 victory. The junior leads The American in strikeouts (50) and innings pitched (59). The pitcher of the week award was his third in the past four weeks, with the lefthander allowing no earned runs and striking out 27 batters over 26 innings in those three weeks.

Skoglund will be opposed by Tigers' junior Caleb Wallingford. Wallingford is 4-2 and holds a 1.29 ERA in 48.2 innings pitched.

On Saturday, RHP Tanner Olson (3-2, 3.86 ERA) will make his third-consecutive weekend start for the Knights. The Ferndale, Wash., native will be opposed by Memphis' Jon Reed (4-1, 4.17 ERA) with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.

The series will conclude with an 12:30 p.m. Sunday matinee. Sophomore Colin Lee (1-3, 3.86 ERA) will start for the Tigers against a to-be-determined starter for the Knights.
