GREENVILLE, N.C. (UCFAthletics.com) - Locked in a tight battle for the Conference USA regular-season title, the UCF baseball team travels to East Carolina for the final weekend in league play beginning Thursday at 6 p.m. at Clark-LeClair Stadium.
The Knights (28-25) will end their eight-year run in Conference USA against the Pirates (28-23) with both teams tied for third in the league at 12-9. Depending on how the weekend plays out, UCF could end the regular season as C-USA champs. For a full explanation of the conference's tie-breakers, click HERE.
Fans can follow UCF all weekend by tuning into Marc Daniels on 740-AM The Game with pregame starting 15 minutes prior to first pitch. The Knights will also end the regular season in front of a national audience at 11 a.m. Saturday on Fox Sports Net.
A pair of stellar pitching matchups highlight the series beginning Thursday night with RHPs Ben Lively (6-4, 1.88 ERA) facing off with Jeff Hoffman (6-5, 2.90 ERA). Lively, C-USA's ERA leader, will look to bounce back after a tough Friday night start against Tulane a week ago.
On Saturday, LHP Chris Matulis (5-4, 3.97 ERA) will look for his fifth win in conference play when he goes head-to-head with RHP David Lucroy (4-1, 2.11 ERA). Matulis has totaled 6 1/3 innings of relief against the Pirates in his career, including 4 1/3 frames last year in Orlando for the win.
UCF will look to build upon its impressive 23-10 road record in C-USA since 2011 this weekend. In the overall series between the two schools, the Knights trail, 20-9, but got the best of the Pirates in three out of four matchups in 2012.
