ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - UCF head baseball coach Terry Rooney announced changes to his staff Wednesday afternoon with the additions of volunteer assistant coach Kyle Sprague and Andy Chriscaden as director of baseball operations.
Former volunteer assistant Alex Guerra accepted a full-time assistant coaching job at Radford, while last season’s head of baseball ops, Rich Witten, was named a volunteer assistant with Miami. Guerra, who served on Rooney's staff for two seasons, will work with the Highlanders’ hitters, recruiting, day-to-day operations, and serving as the team's bench coach on game day.
Sprague begins his first season with the Knights as a volunteer assistant after spending the 2013 season in the same capacity at Gardner-Webb. The Mansfield, Ohio, native played three seasons at Malone (Ohio) and was a part of teams that won 104 games during his career. His college playing experience started at Tiffin.
Sprague has a plethora of experience as a camp instructor, working at the Marc Wilkins Baseball Academy from 2007-2012 and for Cal Ripken Baseball in 2009. He also has served as a camp instructor at Clemson, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, LSU and Mississippi State, among others.
Handling the day-to-day operations on Rooney's staff will be Chriscaden. The 2012 graduate of Kennesaw State ended his collegiate playing career with 38 career home runs and 189 runs batted in. Prior to his time in Georgia, Chriscaden attended Skagit Valley College where he was roommates with former Knights second baseman, Travis Shreve.
