The 41 points totaled by Southern Miss was the second-fewest allowed by UCF since the program moved to the Division I level prior to the 1984-85 campaign. A year ago, the Knights limited Florida Tech to just 37 points.
Since joining Conference USA in 2005, the Knights have limited three league opponents to below 50 points.
UCF won its Conference USA season debut for the first time in three tries.
Dave Noel paced the Knights in scoring with 17 points. His performance marked the first time in 12 contests that Jermaine Taylor did not pace the Knights in points.
Taylor did finish with 13 points and matched a career-best with eight rebounds.
UCF recorded 12 assists on 19 field goals as both Chip Cartwright and Mike O'Donnell totaled four assists.
The Knights registered six blocked shots, compared to one for the Golden Eagles. Stanley Billings had three blocks in a career-high 27 minutes and Tony Davis added two swats.
The Knights have now started Conference USA play on the road for the second-straight year. In 2006-07, the squad began league play at UAB.
UCF and Southern Miss were meeting for the third time on the hardwood.
The contest concluded the Knights' first string of back-to-back road games of the season. The squad played at Sam Houston State on Saturday.
The game was broadcast live regionally on CSS. It marked UCF's sixth televised game of the year and second contest on CSS.
