ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Some big men prefer to work on the perimeter. Not Paul Reed. Playing for the Knights from 1999-02, the power forward controlled the paint for UCF.

The 6-foot-8, 225-pound Reed was a force down low for head coach Kirk Speraw. In three campaigns in Orlando, he totaled 1,182 points and 685 rebounds. Despite playing a year at Old Dominion, he ranks fourth in UCF history in career rebounds and is also second in blocked shots (127).

The Orlando native had a strong campaign for the Knights as a senior in 2001-02. He averaged 13.8 points and 8.9 boards. Reed shot 50.3 percent overall and also totaled 40 blocks and 39 steals. In a contest at Marist, he recorded one of the best individual performances in school history. He totaled 20 rebounds and also added 17 points and three blocks in 37 minutes. The 20 rebounds tied him for fourth on the program single-game register.

Following the year, he earned a spot on the All-Atlantic Sun Second Team. Reed had his finest season at UCF as a junior. He averaged 14.0 points and 7.4 rebounds. His 56 blocks were good for third on the Knights' single-season swats list.

The 2008-09 Knights are slated to return to action Saturday, hosting Tulsa at 7 p.m. at the UCF Arena.
