ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – Following a summer of working out for NBA teams, former UCF star Tristan Spurlock (Woodbridge, Va.) announced Friday that he will be playing for the Detroit Pistons during the NBA Summer League in Orlando.
“It feels great. I’m really blessed,” Spurlock said Friday morning. “I’m thankful for the opportunity.”
Spurlock, who graduated from UCF in May, scored 897 points, grabbed 476 rebounds, and knocked down 120 three-pointers during his career as a Knight. His next goal is to play at the professional level.
“My agent did a great job of preparing me,” Spurlock said. “He got me a lot of workouts with NBA teams.”

The 6-8 forward worked out for the Utah Jazz, the New York Knicks, and the Atlanta Hawks. He also had a workout schedule with the Pistons on Wednesday, the day before the NBA Draft, but Detroit ended up cancelling it.
“It was great,” he said of the workouts. “Utah was a great experience. Deandre Daniels and Jordan McRae were there, and those two guys were drafted. It was an amazing opportunity to play against them and really compare my game to theirs to see where I was at.”
The Pistons are scheduled to participate in the Southwest Airlines Orlando Pro Summer League. The event, scheduled from July 5-11, will take place at the Orlando Magic’s practice court at the Amway Center.
“It will be nice to go back to Orlando,” Spurlock said. “That’s another exciting thing about all of this.”
Spurlock and the Pistons are one of 10 teams in competition in Orlando this summer. The Magic, Celtics, Nets, Rockets, Pacers, Grizzlies, Heat, Thunder, and 76ers (with former teammate Isaiah Sykes) will also be in attendance.
“I just want to stay focused,” Spurlock said of the opportunity in the Summer League. “I want to go in and learn as much as I can. Any rookie coming into any summer league, you have to soak up as much information as you can. The Pistons are such a great organization that I’m blessed to even be a part of the team.”
NBA TV will televise the games, with a complete schedule of games and broadcast information to be released at a later date. Additionally, fans will be able to watch every game live on NBA.com and on the NBA Game Time app.
