ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – UCF men’s basketball star Isaiah Sykes (Detroit, Mich.) announced Friday that he will be playing with the Philadelphia 76ers during the NBA Summer League season.
“We could not be more proud of Isaiah,” UCF head coach Donnie Jones said. “He has put in so much work to get to this point, and it is the dream of every young basketball player to play for an NBA team.
“Isaiah’s determination has paid off for him,” Jones went on to say. “We are extremely happy for him, and look forward to watching him succeed as he begins this next journey in his life.”
Sykes finished his career with the Knights as the eighth leading scorer in school history with 1,545 points. He also ranks third in the record books in steals (183), fourth in rebounds (764), and fifth in assists (336).
An All-AAC Second Team selection, and an American Athletic Conference All-Tournament Team honoree, Sykes led UCF and was fifth in the conference with 17.2 points per game during his senior season.
During the Knights’ final season in Conference USA, Sykes was a first team all-conference and C-USA All-Defensive Team selection as a junior. He averaged 16.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 2.3 steals in 2012-13. He also led the nation with two triple-doubles during the year.
Sykes has excelled during the summer season so far, playing in the prestigious Portsmouth Invitational, and working out for the Orlando Magic, Miami Heat, Atlanta Hawks, Denver Nuggets, and Dallas Mavericks.

His summer will continue with a stint with the 76ers. Philadelphia is scheduled to participate in both the Orlando and Las Vegas Summer Leagues. The Orlando slate runs from July 5-11, while the games in Las Vegas are scheduled for July 11-21.
The Orlando Summer League will feature 10 teams, including the Detroit Pistons, featuring Sykes’ former teammate Tristan Spurlock. There are 23 NBA teams participating in the Las Vegas League.
NBA TV will televise the games, with a complete schedule of games and broadcast information to be released at a later date. Additionally, fans will be able to watch every game live on NBA.com and on the NBA Game Time app.
