ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – B.J. Taylor and Adonys Henriquez both enjoyed celebrated high school careers in the city of Orlando.  They were also named Florida State Player of the Year in Class 8A and Class 2A, respectively.  This past November both made the decision to join the UCF men’s basketball program, and since arriving on campus early this summer, they couldn’t be happier with the choice.

“The coaches are great, the facilities are great, and school has been great,” Taylor said after an off-season workout Monday afternoon. “Everything is going well. I’m excited.”

Taylor attended Boone High School, where he led the state in scoring with 34.5 points per game.  Henriquez, who was ranked as a Top 100 player in the nation by ESPN, led local Orlando Christian Prep to the state title this past winter.  Both are excited at the prospect of playing collegiately in their hometown.

“Your family can come watch you play and a lot of people who support UCF can watch local guys make it,” Henriquez said of the benefits. “Coming here to UCF I’m going to have a lot of support from my family and my friends.”

“In my neighborhood everyone is excited that I went to UCF,” Taylor added. “It’s different being from Orlando.  When I go back home I see people with UCF flags. It’s a different level of pride when you’re from here.”

This isn’t the duo’s first time playing together either.  Taylor and Henriquez have known each other since childhood, and are thrilled to be teaming up again with the Knights.

“We go way back, playing on the same team and playing against each other,” Taylor said of Henriquez. “He’s been my friend for a long time. It’s great to keep that going through our years here at UCF.”

“Me and B.J. have been friends since third grade,” Henriquez said. “We played AAU together since we were kids. For us to play together again on the same team is a blessing. I think we will make a good duo.”
