ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF men's basketball head coach Kirk Speraw announced on Monday that Jean-Michel Yotio of Montverde Academy in Lake County has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Golden Knights and will join the program in the fall of 2007. A native of the Ivory Coast, Yotio is a 6-foot-9, 235-pound power forward who plays at Montverde for coach Kevin Sutton.
"We are very excited that Jean-Michel will be joining our program," said Speraw. "He is coming from Kevin Sutton's Montverde program that does the best job in the country preparing young men to succeed on the basketball court, in the classroom and in life."
The senior missed all of last season due to an illness, but did participate in a number of camps this past summer. Yotio shined at the Five Star Camp at Florida State and also competed at the Breakdown Battle of the Rankings Camp, which featured many of the top players in the state of Florida.
"Jean-Michel is a player who improves every practice and gets better each game. He is an outstanding young man," said Speraw. "He will be a great representative of our program and our university."
Montverde is expected to be one of the premier teams in the state this season and also one of the better squads in the nation.
The Golden Knights are in their second campaign in Conference USA. In the last five years, UCF has claimed 89 contests, a mark that ranks in the top-40 nationally. Speraw's program has participated in two of the last three NCAA Tournaments.
Yotio will have the opportunity to play in the new 10,000-seat Convocation Center on the UCF campus. The venue is expected to be completed prior to the start of the 2007-08 season.
UCF is 5-0 this season and the team's next contest is set for Saturday, Dec. 9 versus Florida Atlantic at home. Tip-off at the UCF Arena is set for 7:30 p.m.
