UCF at South Carolina Game Notes

South Carolina defeated UCF 24-15 in the season opener for both schools Thursday, September 1 in Columbia, S.C. on ESPN.
Senior TE Darcy Johnson (Palatka, Fla./Palatka) and senior DE Paul Carrington (Guyton, Ga./Effringham) served as game captains for UCF.
The Golden Knights dropped to 0-5 on ESPN. The ESPN broadcast marked the fourth straight season the Golden Knights have started the season on ESPN.
UCF is 1-9 all-time vs. SEC schools and 0-3 vs. South Carolina.
UCF is 14-13 all-time in season openers. UCF head coach George O'Leary is 6-5 on ESPN Thursday night primetime telecasts.
True freshman OLB Cory Hogue (Naples, Fla./Naples) made his first career start. Other first-time starters include sophomore DT Leger Douzable (Tampa, Fla./Alonso) and redshirt freshman CB Johnell Neal (Baton Rouge, La./Redemptionist).
Seven true freshmen made their collegiate debuts for UCF. Tailback Kevin Smith (Miami, Fla./Southridge),WR Rocky Ross (Jacksonville, Fla./Bolles), CB Joe Burnett (Eustis, Fla./Eustis), DE Clarence Howard (Springfield, Va./Robert E. Lee), LB Jordan Richards (Cary, N.C./Cary), LB Travis Barr (Duluth, Ga./Chattahoochee) and Hogue were the seven true freshmen to earn playing time.
Senior PK Matt Prater (Estero, Fla./Estero) connected on a 37-yard field goal for UCF's first points of the season. The field goal was Prater's 34th of his career.
Senior DE Paul Carrington and redshirt junior DE Chris Welsh (Cocoa, Fla./Cocoa) registered back-to-back sacks to end a South Carolina drive in the second quarter. In 2004, UCF played five games before recording two sacks on the season, with the second coming vs. Northern Illinois on October 9, 2004.
Junior QB Steven Moffett (Winter Park, Fla./Winter Park) completed 10 straight passes to establish a new career-high for consecutive completions. He broke his personal mark of nine consecutive completions vs. Northern Illinois in 2004.
Moffett tied for sixth in UCF single-game history for consecutive completions with Ryan Schneider. Schneider completed 10 straight vs. Florida Atlantic in 2003. He ended the game 27-of-39 passing for 258 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
Senior WR Brandon Marshall (Winter Park, Fla./Lake Howell) established a career-high with 10 receptions. Junior WR Mike Walker (Orlando, Fla./Edgewater) also set a new personal-best with nine receptions.
Both Walker and Marshall also went over the century mark in receiving yards. Marshall finished with 102 yards receiving and Walker ended the game with a career-high 105 yards receiving.
Walker and Marshall are also the last two UCF receivers to eclipse the century mark in the same game (September 13, 2003 vs. Florida Atlantic).
