USF defeated UCF, 31-14, in the first-ever meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.
UCF made its first-ever appearance on FSN Florida.
UCF dropped to 0-9 all-time vs. BIG EAST competition. The Golden Knights are 1-33 all-time vs. BCS schools and 13-9 vs. in-state opponents.
For the first time under head coach George O'Leary, UCF donned white jerseys and gold pants at an away game. The Golden Knights wore white jerseys with white pants all of last season away from home and at their 2005 season opener at South Carolina September 1.
The first instant replay of the season for UCF was used to review a catch by UCF receiver Brandon Marshall with 7:47 left in the second quarter. The original ruling of a catch was over-turned and ruled an incomplete pass.
UCF played for the second time in school history at an NFL stadium Saturday evening at Raymond James Stadium. The only other time UCF played at an NFL venue was September 22, 2001 at the Superdome in New Orleans as UCF defeated Tulane 36-29.
True freshman OT Patrick Brown (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North), true freshman CB Joe Burnett (Eustis, Fla./Eustis) and redshirt freshman RG L.J. Anderson (Sumter, S.C./Sumter) made their first career starts.
Senior DE Paul Carrington (Guyton, Ga./Effingham County) blocked a USF field goal in the second quarter. The last UCF player to block a field goal in a game was Peter Sands vs. Marshall (Nov. 19, 2003).
Senior WR Brandon Marshall (Winter Park, Fla./Lake Howell) and senior DT Frisner Nelson (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers) served as game captains for UCF.
Burnett returned his first career punt in the third quarter and gained 17 yards. It was the first punt return of the season for the Golden Knights.
Burnett's second career punt return was for 60 yards down to the USF five-yard line. It set up UCF's first touchdown of the game as Steven Moffett (Winter Park, Fla./Winter Park) scampered in from five yards out.
Redshirt sophomore Neal Bittong (Orlando, Fla./Bishop Moore) appeared in his first game at UCF on special teams and at fullback. The converted defensive tackle had the lead block on Moffett's five-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
Redshirt freshman WR Willie Redshirt sophomore WR Thornton (Belle Glades, Fla./Glades Central) hauled in his first career reception in the fourth quarter. Thornton ended the game 50 yards receiving.
Redshirt sophomore WR Sergiori Joachim (North Miami, Fla./North Miami) recorded his first career catch in the fourth quarter for a seven-yard gain.
Junior CB Travonti Johnson (Miami, Fla./Krop) recorded a career-high 12 total tackles. Senior LB James Cook (Jacksonville, Fla./Trinity Christian) also posted a career-high with 10 stops.
