UCF defeated Houston 31-29 to move to 6-3 overall and 5-1 in Conference USA. The last time UCF won a game in which the opponent scored first was Oct. 4, 2003 in a 19-10 victory over Buffalo.
The Golden Knights are bowl-eligible for the fifth time in school history. UCF is the first team in the Eastern Division of Conference USA to become bowl-eligible and the second team in the league to reach the mark. UTEP entered Saturday with an overall record of 6-1.
UCF continued its remarkable turnaround in 2005. The Golden Knights have a win differential of six games in 2005, the nation's best turnaround.
Tonight's attendance of 32,635 was UCF's largest crowd at home since 50,220 attended the Virginia Tech game on Nov. 11, 2000 at the Florida Citrus Bowl.
With Cory Hogue's interception in the second quarter, UCF has at least one interception in seven straight games, the second longest streak in school history. In 2000, UCF had an interception in nine consecutive games.
The Golden Knights have 14 interceptions in their last seven games.
UCF has 29 sacks as team in its last 13 games.
UCF is 5-0 all-time under George O'Leary when leading at halftime.
With his five-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Marshall in the first quarter, Steven Moffett has thrown at least one touchdown pass in 12 consecutive games. He is tied for fifth in the UCF annals with Vic Penn with a touchdown pass in 12 straight games.
Marshall ended the game with seven receptions for 120 yards, his fifth 100-yard receiving game of the season. Marshall has six career 100-yard receiving games.
Moffett's streak of 94 straight passes without an interception came to an end in the fourth quarter. The last time Moffett threw an interception was in the second quarter of the Southern Miss game. He ended the game 21-of-30 passing for 275 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.
Freshman OLB Cory Hogue intercepted his first career pass after the football was deflected off two players in the second quarter. Hogue ended the night with a team-high and career-high eight tackles and two forced fumbles.
Senior TE Darcy Johnson caught five passes for a career-high 80 yards in the first half of play. Johnson ended the game with six receptions for 91 yards.
On fourth down and goal from the Houston two-yard line, Moffett found Mike Walker on a two-yard touchdown pass. The touchdown reception was Walker's eighth of the season, which places him in a tie for eighth in UCF single-season history in touchdown receptions.
For the second straight game, sophomore TB Curtis Francis recovered a muffed punt. Both fumble recoveries were inside the opponent's 20-yard line and led to a pair of UCF touchdowns.
Senior TE Antonio Eldemire caught his first pass of the season on a six-yard reception in the second quarter.
