ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF football team, associate head coach Brent Key and President Dr. John C. Hitt were formally recognized with a resolution from Mayor Teresa Jacobs and the Orange County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday afternoon.
After a welcome by Mayor Jacobs, the printed resolution acclaiming the Knights was presented. Dr. Hitt and UCF vice president and director of athletics Todd Stansbury accepted the praise and spoke on behalf of the Knights.
"Be It Resolved by the Orange County Board of County Commissioners that the UCF Knights football team is hereby commended and celebrated for their outstanding season and Dr. Hitt and Coach O'Leary are recognized for their exceptional leadership of this very successful program," the resolution read.
Stansbury expressed his gratitude to the board and the community for their unwavering support during the Knights' historic and championship season.
"Thank you for this recognition. On behalf of Coach O'Leary, the staff and the team, we have been really humbled by people in the stands this year and the whole community really getting behind us," Stansbury said. "Ultimately, our goal through this program is to develop great community leaders and citizens and I think Coach O'Leary and his staff do an incredible job."
UCF finished the year ranked among the nation's top 10 for the first time in school history after compiling a 12-1 record capped by a 52-42 win at the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl over No. 6 Baylor in its first BCS Bowl appearance.
