Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF wide receiver Mike Walker (Orlando, Fla./Edgewater) is set to play in the Texas vs. The Nation Game after agreeing to fill an open roster spot on the Nation team. The inaugural game will take place at the Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas on Friday, Feb. 2 and be televised live nationally on CSTV at 10 p.m. ET.
Walker was named first team All-Conference USA by both the coaches and media covering the league after his record-breaking 2006 season. The senior set a new UCF single-season record with 90 catches and his 1,078 receiving yards were the fourth-highest total in school history.
The Nation team will be coached by Buddy Ryan, former head coach of the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles, who spent nearly 40 years coaching at the collegiate and professional ranks. UTEP's Mike Price will direct the Texas team.
Joining Walker in the game are 15 other representatives from C-USA schools with 12 of those playing for Price's Texas team. Price will have seven Miners on his roster. Six other schools from the Sunshine State, including the national champion Florida Gators, will be represented in the game.
Walker was also recently invited to participate in the NFL Scouting Combine, which will be held Feb. 21-27 in Indianapolis, Ind. He is the second Golden Knight to participate in a postseason all-star game this year. Senior offensive lineman Cedric Gagne-Marcoux (Sherbrooke, Quebec/Champlain) played in the Magnolia Gridiron Classic on Dec. 23 in Jackson, Miss.
The Texas roster features seniors, who either played their college or high school football in the Lone Star state, while the Nation roster is comprised of college seniors from the rest of the country.
