Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF head coach George O'Leary will be honored on Saturday, Feb. 9, as the Conference USA Coach of the Year by the Touchdown Club of Atlanta. O'Leary led the Knights to the 2007 C-USA title and only the second 10-win season in program history. The Conference USA coaches and media also recognized O'Leary as the C-USA Coach of the Year for the second time in UCF's three seasons as a member of the 12-team league.
O'Leary will be one of several players and coaches from both the high school and college ranks that will be honored at the 70th Annual Awards Show at a reception and dinner to be held at the Westin Buckhead Atlanta.
The Knights set several school records during their 2007 championship campaign, which included their first season in Bright House Networks Stadium on the UCF campus. The offense set marks for scoring with 502 points and 62 touchdowns. The defense intercepted a school record 23 passes - a total that ranked third nationally.
UCF finished 10-4 overall and went 7-1 during league play. The Knights won the C-USA title with 44-25 victory over Tulsa in the Bright House Networks Conference USA Championship game. It was the second time UCF defeated Tulsa in 2007, having dealt the Golden Hurricane a 44-23 loss on Oct. 20 also at home in Orlando.
UCF will open 2008 spring practices on March 19 and hold its annual spring game on April 12 at BHNS.
