ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Head coach George O'Leary announced a pair of role changes on his UCF football coaching staff on Thursday and the addition of Manny Messeguer to the athletics association staff as the assistant director of football operations.
Tight ends coach Brent Key will assume the role as special teams coordinator after serving as the recruiting coordinator for the 2007 season. Key replaces Dave Huxtable, who spent the previous four campaigns guiding the Knights' special teams. Huxtable was elevated to defensive coordinator in January.
Geoff Collins, the Knights' newest addition to the coaching staff, will replace Key as the recruiting coordinator. Collins joined the staff in February as the linebackers coach after spending a season as the director of player personnel at the University of Alabama.
"Both of these coaches are taking over roles that they have plenty of experience in dealing with and that will serve our program well," O'Leary said. "Geoff will bring a lot of knowledge to our recruiting efforts and Brent has been working with our special teams since he joined our staff, so that will be an easy transition for him."
O'Leary also announced the addition Messeguer to his football staff. Messeguer has been a long-time volunteer and supporter of the football program dating back to the early 1980s.
"There is not a more passionate person about UCF football than Manny and we are excited to bring him in to help out our day-to-day operations," O'Leary added. "All of these role changes are only going to help us moving forward."
The Knights will open spring practices next Wednesday, March 19 and conclude the 15 sessions with the UCF Football Spring Game on April 12. The annual spring game is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Bright House Networks Stadium.
