UCF staff members landed in Dublin the morning of April 24 and immediately went to work, focusing a lot on gameday operations, ESPN operations, team hotel, media hotel and fan events.
Among the group traveling for the Knights were director of football operations Marty O'Leary, director of sports medicine Mary Vander Heiden, director of equipment Robert Jones, senior associate athletics director for internal operations David Hansen, senior associate athletics director for external operations Zack Lassiter, assistant athletic director of video services John Kvatek, director of production services David Belawski, associate athletic director for internal operations Joe Simon, assistant director for development Erin Taute, senior associate director for athletics communications Brian Ormiston and multimedia reporter Chip Fontanazza.
Head Coach George O'Leary and special assistant Manny Messeguer arrived April 25 and took part in photo shoots and interviews for Irish media, spreading the word about the Knights and the season opener in Dublin vs. the Nittany Lions.
On the final day of the trip, there were a few final touches to put on the meetings leading up to the Allianz League contests, and once they begun, both UCF and Penn State staff members sat down to enjoy Croke Park in action.
First up was the Division II Final between Donegal and Monaghan which set up a rousing Dublin victory over Derry in the Division I Final. Some of the Knights went through gameday operations to see the stadium when a match takes place, helping learn what is expected for when UCF hosts Penn State at the historic venue in August.
UCF will be returning back to Orlando Monday evening.
