ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Two former UCF Knights will tangle this Friday when the CFL kicks off its 2013 campaign as Edmonton Eskimos defensive back and return specialist Joe Burnett hosts defensive lineman Keith Shologan's Saskatchewan Roughriders at 9 p.m.

In only his first year in the CFL, Burnett dazzled all season long with the Eskimos. A starter in 18 games at cornerback, he led the league with six interceptions for 167 yards and two touchdowns, highlighted by a two-pick game against the B.C. Lions with one of those interceptions being returned 108 yards for a touchdown. On special teams, Burnett had 28 kickoff returns for 573 yards and 52 punt returns for 440 yards. He went on to be named a Western Division All-Star and a CFL All-Star.

A 2008 first-team All-American, Burnett (2005-08) excelled in the return game and in the secondary for the Black and Gold. In 2008, he was the only player in the nation to rank in the top-20 in both kickoff (seventh, 28.7) and punt returns (10th, 14.5). At UCF, he ranks first all-time with 96 punt returns, 1,304 punt return yards and three touchdowns off punts. Burnett also sits in first with 16 interceptions and 262 interception return yards.

Shologan is entering his sixth season as a member of the Roughriders. He matched his personal-best with three sacks in 2012, and has 11 sacks for his career. The fourth-overall selection in the 2008 CFL Canadian Draft, Shologan was the Most Valuable Canadian in the 2010 Grey Cup in a season in which he started all 18 regular-season contests and every game in the playoffs.

With the Knights, Shologan was a four-year starter at defensive tackle from 2004-07. He was named to the 2007 All-Conference USA Second Team, but more impressively, was voted onto the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team that season.

Plan your game days this fall with the Knights, and experience one of the best schedules in program history. Season tickets start at $99. Order today at UCFAthletics.com or call 407-UCF-1000.
