ORLANDO, Fla. ( - UCF senior J.J. Worton received a spot on the College Football Performance Awards Punt Returner Trophy Watch List on Friday.

Worton was one of 40 FBS players to be on the punt returners watch list. The goal of College Football Performance Awards is to provide the most scientifically rigorous conferments in college football. Recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams.

Worton was the seventh Knight to be honored by the CFPA so far in 2014, with Clayton Geathers (defensive backs), Rannell Hall (kick returner), Shawn Moffitt (placekicker), Breshad Perriman (wide receivers), Terrance Plummer (linebackers) and William Stanback (running backs) all picking up spots on watch lists.

Graduating from South Dade High School in South Florida, Worton opened his collegiate career with 17 punt returns for 150 yards in 2011. As a sophomore, he delivered 25 returns for 266 yards and then posted 13 for 157 yards in 2013. All-time, Worton ranks fourth at UCF with 55 punt returns and 573 yards, and his 10.4 average places him in eighth.

Worton was a Honorable Mention Freshman All-American in 2011 and on the 2012 All-Conference USA First Team as a returner. He averaged 12.1 yards per return a year ago, but did not have enough returns to qualify.

As a receiver, Worton has received all-conference honors as well, and boasts 16 touchdown receptions entering 2014.
