ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The Steve and Brenda Sloan Media Room in Bright House Networks Stadium was packed Thursday for the annual UCF Football Media Day. Head coach George O'Leary opened the event with a news conference, as he spoke for almost 20 minutes about the upcoming season.
"I think we have a solid football team back, and there was a lot of retention from the spring," O'Leary said. "We had a great offseason as far as the weight room is concerned. All of those young players who played last year, you can see they've got a little more girth to them, and a little more knowledge as far as where they belong and what they are supposed to do. So I've been very pleased with the first two days (of practice), but we put pads on tomorrow and I think that will start separating the units from first, second, third and fourth string."
While the news conference was taking place, players were heading into the stadium locker room for a video shoot and headshots, as well as meeting up with Marc Daniels who recorded audio for radio broadcasts this year. The Knights then posed for some portrait shots with the Orlando Sentinel, and around 4:30 p.m., media took the short walk to Nicholson Fieldhouse where player interviews were conducted.
With media day in the books, practice No. 3 of the preseason will be held Friday from 6:50-8:50 p.m. (moved from 3:15-5:30 p.m.).
