ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - After 17 days of practices, UCF finally took a day off Sunday before the fall semester begins Monday. That did not stop the news, though, as the Knights learned they were the first team outside the 2014 Associated Press Preseason Top 25.
UCF was unofficially No. 26 with 94 points. Its previous highest placement in an AP preseason poll was 37th in 2012, while its highest point total came in 2011 when it had five points (good for 40th overall).
The Black and Gold has been at least receiving votes in 15 straight AP polls dating back to week four last year. It cracked the top 25 in week nine (Oct. 20) when it entered in at No. 21.
UCF went on to finish 2013 ranked 10th in the AP Top 25, marking its highest ranking in school history. The Knights did not receive votes in the preseason poll a year ago until it opened eyes once again with their performance on the field, going 12-1 while capturing the American Athletic Conference and Tostitos Fiesta Bowl titles.
On July 31, UCF earned 102 points in the 2014 USA Today Preseason Amway Coaches Poll, good for 28th among all teams receiving votes.
