ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award announced Tuesday that fan voting for this year's award has begun. The accolade is handed out to the best FBS quarterback in the country based on skills and athletic ability, academics, character, reputation as a team player, leadership and sportsmanship.

Vote Now for UCF QB Blake Bortles

The fan voting counts as 5% during each round of voting and it is combined with the results from the selection committee. Fans are invited to cast their vote for the best quarterback as often as once daily at www.VoteOBrien.org. Fan vote totals are cleared after each voting round.

Sixteen semifinalists will be announced Oct. 22 and three finalists on Nov. 19. The 2012 Davey O'Brien winner will be announced on The Home Depot College Football Awards airing Dec. 6 on ESPN and will be honored at the 36th Annual Davey O'Brien Awards Dinner on Feb. 18, 2013, in Fort Worth, Texas.

UCF sophomore Blake Bortles is in his first year as the Knights' starting quarterback, and he opened 2012 with some impressive numbers in a 56-14 win at Akron Aug. 30. The Oviedo native went 13-for-16 for 168 yards and three touchdowns. The three TD strikes were the most of his career, while his 56-yard touchdown pass to Rannell Hall marked the longest pass completion for Bortles in a Black and Gold uniform.

As a redshirt freshman in 2011, Bortles came off the bench in 10 games and completed 68.2 percent of his passes (75-for-110) and racked up 958 yards with six touchdowns.

Bortles and the Knights are back to work Saturday when they travel to Ohio State for a noon showdown with the Buckeyes.

UCF football season tickets are currently available for as low as $140, while single-game tickets and flex plans are also on sale.
