ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – After a 28-25 loss to No. 12 South Carolina (3-1, 0-0), the UCF Knights (3-1, 0-0) will now focus on its American Athletic Conference portion of the schedule. This is the Knights’ first loss of the season and the players plan on correcting and improving their mistakes and as the conference portion of the season starts.
“Any loss is hard. I take it very hard. As a senior leader on this team all you can do is tell them (team) to more forward,” said senior defensive lineman E.J. Dunston (No. 95). “We wanted to win this one. It’s not a conference loss, but it’s a lost period.”
“There’s a lot of learning experiences from this game that we’ll get on film and correct [them],” said junior quarterback Blake Bortles (No. 5). “You live and you learn. You learn from your mistakes and try not to make the same ones twice.”
UCF head coach George O’Leary said he was pleased with his team’s effort, but expects the Knights to learn from this game.
“The kids played hard. We just have to play consistently and make more plays,” said O’Leary. “We have a pretty competitive team that understands we need to play better in certain areas and we didn’t do it, but we have to get better at it.”
