ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - Boasting a 2-for-2 performance with an 8-for-8 showing in extra points in the 62-17 win over UConn Oct. 26, UCF junior placekicker Shawn Moffitt received American Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week accolades.

It was the first weekly award of the Orlando native's career.

Holding a 21-10 lead in the second quarter against the Huskies, UCF reached the UConn-33 and sent out Moffitt to attempt a 50-yarder. With 7:53 left in the half, Moffitt converted, giving him his longest field goal of his career. It was the first 50-yard field goal by a Knight since Nick Cattoi hit a 50-yarder at Southern Miss Sept. 12, 2009.

Moffitt also delivered a 35-yarder, this one in the third quarter, to start the season 9-for-9 in field-goal attempts. He is one of 10 kickers in the nation this year to be perfect in field goals with a minimum of five tries. Moffitt started 2012 8-for-8 in field goals, and currently ranks third in UCF history with a 75.0 conversion percentage for his career.

Moffitt converted all eight extra points, as the UCF single-game record for extra points made stands at nine (set four times). For the season, he is 28-for-28 in extra points, and ranks second on the team behind only Storm Johnson (72 points) with 55 points scored.

Also honored by The American, Blake Bortles received a spot on this week's Honor Roll. The junior from Oviedo went 20-for-24 with 286 yards and a career-high four touchdown passes in a little more than two quarters against UConn. He was the first UCF quarterback to throw for four touchdowns in a game since Ryan Schneider vs. Ohio Nov. 30, 2002.

Bortles also was responsible for five touchdowns thanks to a rushing score as well, which tied for the seventh most in UCF single-game history.

No. 19/22 UCF will have a huge battle with Houston Saturday, Nov. 9, at Bright House Networks Stadium. Both teams stand at 6-1 on the year and are tied for first in The American with 3-0 records. The Knights are off this week while the Cougars battle USF Thursday.
