Former UCF star wide receiver Mike Sims-Walker caught six passes for 147 yards and touchdown today to help the Jacksonville Jaguars even out their season record at 4-4 with a 24-21 win over the Kansas City Chiefs at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium.

Sims-Walker's six catches included a 61-yard touchdown from David Garrard just 1:02 before halftime which put the Jaguars on top 14-6 and in command of the contest. Of his six receptions on the day, five of them were good for a Jaguars' first down. Sims-Walker caught six of the eight passes on which he was the targeted receiver. Walker also had an apparent 22-yard first quarter catch negated by a holding penalty.

"It was just a big day for the offense," Sims-Walker said after the game. "We watched film and worked hard at practice all week. Seeing it was a zone team, we just found the holes in that zone. Every man just tried to find a hole in that zone and whoever [David Garrard] threw the ball to just made the play. It just so happened that was for me today. As an offense, it was a big game for us."

For the season, Sims-Walker leads Jacksonville with 36 catches and 554 receiving yards. He has caught four of Jacksonville's six passing touchdowns on the 2009 season.

"You know, I've just been working," Sims-Walker said today. "This is my third year here. Before the season I was saying, `It's about time.' Everybody had been talking about all the potential I had and if I could just do this, or if I could just do that... Well let's eliminate all the if's and let's just do it. My whole teammates were behind me ever since I got here. I've been through a lot of injuries and a lot of other things but nobody ever backed down from me or turned their heads away from me. That just helped me out mentally, confidence-wise, that these guys still believe in me so I just kept working and kept working. It's finally paying off a little bit for me."

A first-team All-Conference USA pick as a senior in 2006, and a second-team selection in 2005, Sims-Walker is third in UCF history with 2,561 career receiving yards and fourth with 184 catches. As a junior, Sims-Walker helped the Knights to the Conference USA East Division title and the school's first bowl bid in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl by catching 64 passes in 11 games for 855 yards and nine touchdowns. All three numbers were second on the team behind only current Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall. He was UCF's leading receiver in 2006, catching a school record 90 passes for 1,178 yards and seven scores in 12 games.
