ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The American Football Coaches Association recognized UCF for its performance in the classroom Wednesday. The Knights were one of 50 institutions honored for graduating 75 percent or more of their football student-athletes.
UCF's Graduation Success Rate stands at 83%, which is 12% higher than the national average and also a school record. The GSR is based on a six-year graduation window for student-athletes. It was developed by the NCAA as part of its academic reform initiative to more accurately assess the academic success of student-athletes.
The 83% showing ranks 18th among FBS members.
The American Athletic Conference, the ACC and Conference USA all tied for the most schools recognized by the AFCA with seven.
Overall, UCF set a program record with a 3.024 team GPA last year, which was the first time in C-USA history a football team recorded at least a 3.0.
This season, the Knights are aiming at a league title as part of the American Athletic Conference, and a win over USF Friday at 8 p.m. at Bright House Networks Stadium will clinch at least a share of the league crown.
Eight seniors will be honored before the game, and fans are encouraged to wear black as part of a Blackout at Bright House. Tickets can be purchased by visiting UCFKnights.com.
