ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Already boasting his bachelor's degree, UCF senior linebacker Ray Shipman was voted onto the Conference USA All-Academic Team Thursday. The native of Miramar carries a 3.43 cumulative grade-point average while enrolled in UCF's graduate school of communication.

The Knights have earned seven spots on the C-USA All-Academic Team under head coach George O'Leary: Sha'reff Rashad (2006 and 2007), Keith Shologan (2007), Rocky Ross (2009), Josh Linam (2010 and 2011) and Shipman.

Shipman, who received his bachelor's degree in May 2012, started competing for the Knights in 2010 after serving two seasons with the University of Florida basketball program. Since that time, he has been a member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll twice, and appeared in nine games with two starts in 2011 en route to 35 tackles and 4.5 tackles for loss.

However in 2012, Shipman has broken out on the defensive side of the ball. A starter in all 12 games, he has more than doubled his tackle total with 91 this season, while also notching 2.5 tackles for loss. That includes 15 tackles at Tulsa and 14 at UTEP.

Shipman and the Knights will be looking to become the first team in league history to win three conference title games when UCF travels to Tulsa Saturday at noon ET on ESPN2 for the 2012 C-USA Championship Game.
