ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – UCF junior Clayton Geathers has earned American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

Geathers had a game- and team-high nine tackles to go with a forced fumble, an interception and a pass breakup to key UCF’s defense in a 17-13 win at SMU, helping the Knights win the outright American Athletic Conference title.

Geathers, whose interception came midway through in the fourth quarter as the Mustangs looked to take a late lead, helped limit SMU’s league-leading passing offense to 235 yards - 116 yards below its average. Geathers finished the regular season with 90 tackles, two interceptions and 10 pass breakups.

The weekly award for the conference champion Knights pushed their total to nine (see below for details) for the season, most of any American Athletic Conference team.
