GAINESVILLE, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The No. 5-ranked UCF men's golf team shook off some rust in the first two rounds of the SunTrust Gator Invitational Saturday afternoon at the Mark Bostick Golf Course on the campus of the University of Florida.
In the first competition of the spring, UCF was in 12th place at the 14-team event after one round. But the Knights shaved 10 strokes off their second round score, moving up to eighth place. UCF is 27-over after two rounds and trails first-place Arkansas by 17 strokes. UCF put together rounds of 299 and 289 on the opening day of the tournament.
Individually, the Knights were paced by Greg Eason. The senior carded rounds of 72 and 69 to sit at 1-over for the tournament. He is tied for third place and is just four strokes off the lead, currently held by Mercer's Trey Rule.
Ricardo Gouveia is tied for 27th at +7, while Linus Vaisanen is 9-over and tied for 40th. Kyle Wilshire (+11, tied for 50th) and Ryan Stovash (+16, tied for 69th) rounded out the UCF contingent.
The third and final round of the Gator Invitational tees off Sunday morning.
