STATESBORO, Ga. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF men’s golf team is tied for ninth after one round of play at the Schenkel Invitational. The Knights were paced by senior Greg Eason, who is one stroke off the individual lead and sits in third place.
Eason fired a first-round 69 Friday on the Forest Heights Country Club course. At 3-under, he is one off the pace set by Taylor Hancock (North Florida) and David Snyder (Kentucky), who each carded scores of 68 on the first day of the event.
As a team, the rest of the Knights struggled a bit Friday. Ricardo Gouveia and Linus Vaisanen each tallied a 74 (+2) and were tied for 29th. Kyle Wilshire tied for 68th and came in at 77 (+5) to round out the team scoring. Federico Zucchetti (tie-79th) was also in the UCF lineup and scored a 79 (+7).
The team lead is currently held by UAB, which is at 3-under as a team. Georgia State is the only other squad that came in under par in the first round, turning in a minus-2 round.
The second round is slated to begin Saturday morning. The Knights are scheduled to tee off at 9 a.m.
