STATESBORO, Ga. (UCFKnights.com) – The Knights climbed four spots Saturday in the second round of team competition at the Schenkel Invitational. Led by freshman Federico Zucchetti who shot a personal-best round of 65 (-7), UCF is now tied for fifth with Texas going into Sunday’s final round at Forest Heights Country Club.
After a tough opening round, Zucchetti moved up 55 spots in individual scoring, to finish tied for 23rd overall going into the final round. He made five birdies on the front-nine alone and added three more on the back. His only blemish came on the par-3 sixth, the second most difficult hole on day two.
Turning in a second round 71 (-1), UCF senior Greg Eason fell five spots to an eighth place tie but is still in the hunt for medalist honors, just two shots off the pace.
Ricardo Gouveia, Kyle Wilshire, and Linus Vaisanen all improved on their scores from day one helping to keep the Knights in the mix for the team title.
Georgia Southern is atop the team leaderboard, holding a four-shot advantage over UAB with College of Charleston and North Florida rounding out the top-five.
The Knights are scheduled to tee off at 8:30 a.m. for Sunday’s final round.
