LAKE WORTH, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – UCF senior Ricardo Gouveia holds a one-stroke lead after one round of play at the FAU Slomin Autism Invite, which began Friday at The Fountains Country Club’s North Course.
Gouveia carded a 4-under 67 Friday on the strength of five birdies and just one bogey to grab the lead. He also paced the Knights to second place with two rounds of play remaining. As a team, UCF put together a tally of 285 (+1). The No. 6-ranked Knights trail first-round leader Georgia Southern (-6) seven strokes. Middle Tennessee State (+9) is in third place.
The remainder of UCF’s lineup also turned in solid first-round showings. Freshman Ryan Stovash is tied for ninth, after turning in one-over round of 72. Stovash had an up-and-down round that included an eagle, double and triple bogeys and four birdies, as well.
Senior Greg Eason is tied for 16th and is just two strokes over par. He scored par on 16 of 18 holes Friday. Senior Kyle Wilshire is also tied for 16th with a 73. He recorded four birdies and six bogeys over his 18 holes. Freshman Federico Zucchetti also took part for UCF, although his first-round score did not count toward the team tally. Zucchetti was 3-over at 74.
Junior Linus Vaisanen is taking part in the tournament as an individual. He is tied for 73rd, after carding a 12-over score of 83.
The second round of the FAU Slomin Autism Invitational gets under way Saturday morning.
