INNISBROOK, Fla. ( – The No. 7 UCF men’s golf team holds a four-stroke lead after one round of play at the American Athletic Conference Championship. The Knights were the only team to post a team score below par Sunday at the Coppherhead Course at the Innisbrook Resort.

UCF fired an opening round 283 to post a 1-under tally. While the Knights are in the lead, four other squads are all within nine strokes. SMU carded a score of 287 Sunday to go 3-over, while USF is 6-over at 290. Houston and Cincinnati are tied for fourth place at 292 (+8).

Linus Vaisanen paced UCF Sunday with a blistering, 4-under 67. The junior from Helsinki, Finland recorded seven birdies in the first round. Vaisanen holds a three-shot lead in the individual standings after one round of play. Ricardo Gouveia is tied with a pair of SMU Mustangs for second place at 1-under. Vaisanen, Gouveia and the two SMU players were the only individuals who were under par Sunday.

Greg Eason is tied for sixth at 1-over par. Kyle Wilshire rounded out the Knights’ scoring with a 3-over score of 74 (tied for 18th). Federico Zucchetti is also in the UCF lineup. He turned in a 4-over 75 Sunday to sit in a tie for 28th.
