SAN ANTONIO, Texas (UCFKnights.com) - The No. 7-ranked UCF men's golf team recorded an even-par round of 288 at Briggs Ranch Golf Club to open the NCAA San Antonio Regional Thursday. The Knights are currently tied for third in the 13-team regional, with the top five teams after Saturday's third and final round advancing to the NCAA Championsihp.
No. 6 Georgia tallied the low score of the day at 281, coming in 7-under par. The College of Charleston is in second place at 285 (-3). The Knights are even with fellow American Athletic Conference members SMU at even par. UCLA and TCU are tied for fifth at 290 (+2).
Kyle Wilshire paced the Knights with a first-round 68 (-4) and is just one stroke off the lead. The senior is tied for third place after one round. Wilshire tallied four birdies on the day and did not record a score over par for the entire round. He was particularly strong on the back nine, where he tallied three birdies.
Senior Ricardo Gouveia is 1-under and one of just 14 golfers who were under par for the first round. His tally of 71 included three birdies and two bogeys. Senior Greg Eason is 2-over for the day and tied for 34th after carding a 74. Junior Linus Vaisanen and freshman Federico Zucchetti were each 3-over with first-round scores of 75, rounding out the Knights' lineup.
UCF will be playing with Georgia and College of Charleston in Friday's second round. Those groupings will begin teeing off at 9:10 a.m. Follow along with live scoring here.
